The Pacific Crest Trail was Patchwork Canteen’s first fully analog project. After a bitter end with the digital camera that trekked the entire Appalachian Trail and Coast to Coast Walk, they chose to convert exclusively to film photography. With a short timeline and a tight budget, Caleb reached out to the film photography community online and asked for any unwanted or expired film for their hike. The response was overwhelmingly supportive and they received nearly seventy 35mm film rolls of varying types and ages. The memories of these photos have a deeper theme unseen but understood by the artists. While Caleb and Madelyn had physical stamina and a honed vision, it was the generosity of others that propelled this project into unchartered territories. Documenting the 2,600 mile trail with strictly analog methods was inherently risky but exceedingly rewarding in the end. These photographs, of their four and half month journey from Mexico to Canada, came together in the most ruggedly poetic way.
