a slow and intentional print project

about

Since 2018, Caleb and Madelyn have worked under the name Patchwork Canteen. Their projects are built through extended travel, seasonal labor, and long periods spent moving through landscapes.

They began traveling full-time by vehicle, crossing remote regions and public lands across the US. In 2022, long-distance hiking changed way they moved through the world. While distance and duration shape the work, the focus remains on lived experience—daily rhythms, temporary communities, and time spent in unfamiliar places.

Patchwork Canteen is an ongoing documentation of movement and return, examining how place, labor, and intention shape the way a life is lived.

Human Powered

How It's Done

Between long-distance routes, we work seasonal jobs across the US — agriculture, ski areas, outdoor tourism. These jobs are short, physical, and temporary by design. They provide enough structure and income to step away for months at a time and focus on walking, photographing, and writing in remote places.

When the work ends, we return to the trail. When the trail ends, we find work again. Over time, this rhythm has given us both movement and community — some places we return to, others we pass through once, people we work alongside year after year, strangers that become fast friends, and the space to keep making long-form projects.
